RACISM WORKSHOP
RACISM WORKSHOP
There are many articles online as people respond to yesterday’s elections. One article that especially caught my eye (and heart) was from Jim Wallis, leader of the Sojourners Community in Washington, DC. He says:
“Yesterday was a watershed moment in the life and history of our country. Regardless of how you voted, our entire nation can celebrate the election of our first African-American President. We can all embrace this profound opportunity for deeper racial reconciliation and social justice. This is also a time for prophetic leadership and the power of faith-inspired movement. The best social movements have spiritual foundations.”
Several years ago I participated in a racism workshop led by the People’s Institute North. It was an opportunity for me to personally examine some of the myths about prejudice, bigotry and racism that had been instilled in me –simply because I lived in America. It was also a time to examine how I participated in ‘white privilege’. To that extent, I would like to invite you to seriously consider attending the Racism Workshop we are holding this Saturday, November 8th at St. Andrew’s by the Lake (Lakeside location). It will be from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Leaders from the People’s Institute North will be guiding us through the workshop.
When I went away from this the first time, I had come to a much greater understanding that change begins with me. I hope many of you might consider devoting a few hours of your time to this important step into our future. Blessings and Peace, Cindy+
